GLC20 - CAREER STUDIES (.5 credit)
This course prepares students for a complex and changing world. Students will learn how to access their own competencies, gaining an understanding of the changing nature of work and workplaces.

CVH20 - CIVICS (.5 credit)
This course enables students to be informed, purposeful and active citizens. Students are encouraged to consider their rights and responsibilities as citizens on a local, national and global level while improving their skills in writing, critical thinking, discussion and presentation.

ENG1P - ENGLISH GRADE 9, Applied
This course emphasizes analytic reading, writing, oral communication and thinking skills which students need for success in secondary school academic programs and their daily lives. Students will study and interpret texts from contemporary and historical periods, including plays, short stories, and short essays and will investigate and create media works. An important focus will be the correct and effective use of spoken and written language. Prerequisite: None

ENG 2D - ENGLISH GRADE 10, Academic
This course extends the range of analytic, reading, writing, oral communication and thinking skills that students need for success in secondary school academic programs. Students will study and interpret challenging texts from contemporary and historical periods, including novels, poems, plays and opinion pieces, and will analyze and create effective media works. An important focus will be the thoughtful use of spoken and written language. Prerequisite: English Grade 9, Academic or applied.

ADA 2D - DRAMATIC ARTS, Grade 10, Open
This course requires students to actively explore dramatic forms and techniques, using their own ideas and concerns as well as sources selected from a wide range of authors, genres and cultures. Student learning will include identifying and using the principles of space, time, voice and movement in creating, sustaining, and communicating authentic roles within a drama. Students will assume responsibility for decisions made in the creation and presentation of the drama, and will analyze and reflect on the experience. Prerequisite: None

HIF10/20D - INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY LIVING, Grade 9 or 10 Open
This course explores the challenges faced by all people: how to meet basic needs, how to relate to others, how to manage resources and how to become responsible members of society. Students will acquire knowledge and skills that are needed to make the transition to adulthood. Teachers will instruct students in developing interpersonal, decision-making, and practical skills related to daily life. Students will explore the functioning of families and the diversities found among families and within society. Prerequisite: None

MPM 1D - MATH, Grade 9, Academic
This course enables students to develop generalizations of mathematical ideas and methods through the exploration of applications, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will investigate relationships to develop equations of straight lines in analytic geometry, explore relationships between volume and surface area of objects in measurement, and apply extended algebraic skills in problem solving. Students will engage in abstract extensions of core learning that will deepen their mathematical knowledge and enrich their understanding. Prerequisite: None

MPM 2D - PRINCIPLES OF MATHEMATICS, Grade 10, Academic
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relations, extend their skills in multi-step problem solving, and continue to develop their abilities in abstract reasoning. Students will pursue investigations of quadratic functions and their applications; solve and apply linear systems; solve multi-step problems in analytic geometry to verify properties of geometric figures; investigate the trigonometry of right and acute triangles; and develop supporting algebraic skills. Prerequisite: Mathematics 9

CGC1D - GEOGRAPHY OF CANADA , Grade 9, Academic
This course draws on a variety of frameworks, such as the ecozone framework and principles of physical, human and economic geography, to explore Canada 's distinct and evolving character. Students will investigate the interconnections among the landforms, climate, soils, plants, animals, and human activities in Canada ecozones to develop geographic knowledge and skills that contribute to an understanding of Canada 's diversity and its role in the world. Prerequisite: None

CHC2D - CANADIAN HISTORY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, Grade 10, Academic
This course explores Canadian participation in global events and traces our development as a country through changes in population, economy, and technology. Students will analyze the elements that constitute Canadian identity, learn the stories of both individuals and communities, and study the evolution of the political and social structures. Students will learn about differing interpretations of the past, and will come to understand the importance in historical studies of chronology and cause-and-effect relationships. They will also learn to develop and support a thesis, conduct research and analysis, and effectively communicate the results of the inquiries. Prerequisite: None

SNC1D - SCIENCE, Grade 9, Academic
This course enables students to understand basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to develop skills in the processes of scientific inquiry and to relate science to technology, society, and the environment. Students will learn scientific theories and conduct investigations related to cell division and reproduction; atomic and molecular structures and the properties of elements and compounds; the universe and space exploration; and the principles of electricity. Prerequisite: None

SNC2D - SCIENCE, Grade 10, Academic
This course enables students to develop a deeper understanding of concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics; to develop further their skills in scientific inquiry; and to understand the interrelationships among science, technology and the environment. Students will conduct investigations and understand scientific theories related to: ecology and the maintenance of ecosystems; chemical reactions, with particular attention to acid-base reactions; factors that influence weather systems; and motion. Prerequisite: Science Grade 9 Academic or Applied

BB120 - INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS Grade 10
This course introduces students to the world of business, including the concepts, functions and skills required for meeting the challenges of operating a business on a local, national and/or international scale. Students will also learn concepts and skills related to personal finance, entrepreneurship and international business. Prerequisite: None

BTT20 - INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Grade 10
This course introduces students to the use of information technology in a business environment. Students will learn how to use information technology to perform electronic research, communicate electronically and use common business software. Prerequisite: None

In addition, Southern Ontario College, retains an in-house full-time tutor to assist students with remedial English grammar, syntax, oral/aural, or comprehension difficulties. Options are also available for remedial work in science, computer technology and/or mathematics.
