English (ESL) Non-Credit Programs

Tutorial
Tutorial instruction is available daily during school hours or by appointment to offer students remedial instruction in oral, aural, and written English, and to assist students in other subject areas.

Remedial Assistance/Preparation for mandatory EQAO (Education Quality and Assessment Office) "Grade 10 Test of Reading and Writing"
Instruction and preparation is available to students who have written this compulsory test and were unsuccessful in achieving a pass and for students who are preparing to write the test.

TOEFL Preparation
Instruction in strategies to help students prepare for the TOEFL test. This class is invaluable to students who are planning on attending university and will be required to achieve a set standard of results or for students who have been unsuccessful in this test in the past.

Practical English
This course is designed for the student who presents with limited or no language acquisition. The aims and objectives of this class are to provide students with an intensive introduction to practical aspects of the English language, including vocabulary, syntax and the conventions of idioms.

Basic Computer Training
This course is designed for beginners and includes keyboarding and introduction to computers. Students will become familiar with the basic components and operation of a computer including how to operate a computer, navigate windows and use the internet.

Business English
This course introduces students to the vocabulary, strategies and procedures used in entrepreneurial activity.

In addition, Southern Ontario College, keeps an in-house full-time tutor to assist students with English grammar, vocabulary, oral/aural, or comprehension difficulties. The tutor is included in the weekly fee.
